ID Finance secures €545 million to accelerate Plazo fintech expansion in Spain
Barcelona-based ID Finance has raised €545 million in debt and equity to expand its fintech app Plazo, signalling aggressive growth ambitions in Spain’s competitive consumer credit market.

ID Finance has secured €545 million in a new funding round to accelerate the growth of its consumer fintech app, Plazo, the company announced. The Barcelona-based firm will use the capital to broaden Plazo’s suite of digital financial products, aiming to position the app as the leading credit platform in Spain.
The financing includes a mix of debt and equity, though the specific allocation was not disclosed. International investors Spice Expeditions, WashU, Kingsway Capital and i80 Group participated in the round, underlining the appeal of Spain’s fintech sector to global capital.
The fresh injection of funds is expected to strengthen ID Finance’s competitive position as it seeks to capture a larger share of Spain’s dynamic consumer credit market. The company plans to use the resources to expand Plazo’s product offering, which could enhance user acquisition and retention by meeting a broader range of financial needs.
Spain’s consumer fintech landscape is becoming increasingly crowded, with established banks and digital challengers competing for market share. ID Finance’s move to secure substantial funding highlights the scale of resources required to compete effectively and signals the company’s intention to play a leading role in shaping the sector.
The presence of multiple international investors in the round reflects growing confidence in the region’s fintech growth prospects. For European and Latin American investors, Spain remains an attractive entry point to the broader EU fintech market, offering regulatory stability and a large user base.
ID Finance’s strategy to develop Plazo as a comprehensive credit platform could set a new benchmark for digital lending in Spain. The success of this expansion will be closely watched by investors and competitors seeking to gauge the sustainability of aggressive growth strategies in the sector.
