Virtual Agrifood Business Forum Generates More Than €21 Million in Trade Opportunities Across Latin America and the Caribbean
More than 700 companies from Latin America and the Caribbean participated in a virtual agrifood business matchmaking event that generated prospective commercial agreements worth more than €21 million. The initiative reinforced regional trade integration by connecting producers, exporters and buyers from across the Americas through a digital platform.

More than 700 agrifood companies from across Latin America and the Caribbean have strengthened their international business networks after participating in a regional virtual business matchmaking round that generated prospective commercial opportunities exceeding €21 million.
Organised by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) together with regional and international partners, the initiative brought together producers, exporters, buyers and service providers with the objective of expanding market access and promoting cross-border trade in the agrifood sector.
Digital platform connects regional agribusiness
The virtual event enabled hundreds of business-to-business meetings between companies from multiple countries without the need for international travel, significantly reducing costs while expanding commercial outreach.
Participants represented a broad spectrum of the agrifood value chain, including producers, cooperatives, exporters, distributors, food processors and companies offering logistics, packaging and trade-related services.
The matchmaking format allowed businesses to identify new commercial partners and explore export opportunities across regional and international markets.
Regional integration through trade
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen economic integration across Latin America and the Caribbean by encouraging intra-regional commerce.
Organisers highlighted that expanding trade within the region can help diversify export destinations, improve food security and reduce dependence on traditional external markets.
By facilitating direct contact between buyers and sellers, the programme also supports the internationalisation of small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the agrifood sector.
Agrifood sector expands international opportunities
The companies participating in the event showcased a wide range of agricultural and food products, from fresh produce and processed foods to beverages, specialty ingredients and agricultural services.
The diversity of participants reflected the increasing sophistication of Latin America's agrifood industry, which continues to seek new commercial channels as global demand for sustainable and high-quality food products grows.
The virtual meetings also created opportunities for suppliers of logistics, technology and export services that support international agricultural trade.
Technology reshapes international commerce
Virtual business matchmaking has become an increasingly important tool for promoting exports, particularly for smaller businesses with limited resources for international marketing.
Digital platforms allow companies to establish commercial contacts more efficiently while accelerating negotiations that previously required participation in physical trade fairs and international missions.
Organisers believe these digital formats will continue complementing traditional trade promotion activities in the coming years.
Supporting SMEs and regional competitiveness
Small and medium-sized enterprises remain at the centre of the initiative, as they represent a significant share of agrifood production throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
By improving access to buyers and international distribution networks, programmes such as these help smaller businesses increase exports, diversify revenue sources and strengthen regional value chains.
The organisers also view stronger commercial integration as a key contributor to rural development and long-term economic resilience.
Growing momentum for regional agrifood trade
The continued expansion of virtual business rounds demonstrates the increasing importance of digital trade promotion across the Americas.
As governments and international organisations seek to improve food security and stimulate sustainable economic growth, initiatives that connect companies across borders are becoming an increasingly valuable instrument for strengthening the region's agrifood ecosystem.
