Panakès Partners Launches €8.5 Million Fund to Boost Lombardy’s MedTech and BioTech Innovation
Milan-based Panakès Partners secures €8.5 million from Lombardia Venture STEP to strengthen Lombardy's MedTech and BioTech sectors, with backing from regional and EU funds.

Panakès Partners has launched an €8.5 million investment vehicle aimed at supporting innovation in the MedTech and BioTech sectors across Lombardy.
The funding was raised from Lombardia Venture STEP, a venture capital fund of funds promoted by the Lombardy Region and financed through European resources from the PR FESR Lombardy 2021–2027 programme. The initiative underscores the region’s commitment to strengthening its life sciences ecosystem and aligns with broader European objectives to foster innovation in healthcare.
By targeting Lombardy, the fund aims to provide startups and emerging companies in the region with crucial capital, potentially accelerating product development and commercialization. This could increase competition within the local market and attract further investment, reinforcing Lombardy’s position as a leading European hub for medical and biological innovation.
Lombardia Venture STEP’s involvement highlights the growing role of regional funds in nurturing advanced technology sectors. By leveraging EU structural funding within a focused geographic area, Lombardy is seeking to translate European policy ambitions into tangible results for local entrepreneurs and researchers.
While the scale of the fund is modest compared to pan-European vehicles, its targeted approach may drive impactful outcomes within Lombardy’s established MedTech and BioTech clusters. However, analysts note potential risks, including market saturation and the vulnerability of early-stage companies to economic volatility.
There is also potential for increased collaboration between European and Latin American firms, as Lombardy’s life sciences sector continues to expand and seek global partnerships. For investors and companies in both regions, the fund’s launch signals new opportunities for cross-border alliances and knowledge transfer within the fast-evolving medical technology landscape.
