Revolta installs Germany’s first 10 kWh sodium-ion home battery, launching pilot rollout
German startup Revolta has launched its first sodium-ion home battery near Aschaffenburg, marking a commercial debut and new competition in residential storage.

Revolta, a German startup, has completed the installation of its first 10 kWh sodium-ion home battery at a customer property near Aschaffenburg, Germany, marking the commercial launch of its technology in the residential sector.
The system, made up of five 2 kWh battery modules each weighing 18.7 kg, operates at a nominal voltage of 450 V. The property already features approximately 20 kW of solar PV and a small hydroelectric plant, underscoring the site's focus on renewable generation. The batteries are paired with an SMA inverter and support charge and discharge rates of 0.4 C.
Revolta's 10 kWh installation is priced at €2,995, with each 2 kWh module selling for €599. The company reports that it is sold out for 2026, but reservations are open for 2027, indicating strong early demand for alternatives to traditional lithium-ion batteries.
The rollout of sodium-ion technology aims to enhance energy independence for residential users, providing a new option in a market traditionally dominated by lithium-based solutions. However, Revolta has not yet disclosed details on rated power, cycle life, or efficiency, factors that could influence broader market adoption.
The move comes as demand for home energy storage rises in Europe, driven by volatile energy prices and the push for renewables. However, the technology remains at the pilot installation stage, with broader scalability and long-term performance yet to be demonstrated.
For Germany and potentially other European markets, the adoption of sodium-ion batteries could diversify supply chains and reduce reliance on critical minerals used in lithium-ion technologies. As Revolta plans further pilot installations, the company will gather data on customer experiences and system performance, shaping its path toward commercial scale.
