Spain's Vicky Foods invests €19 million to double capacity in Algeria

Vicky Foods is strengthening its manufacturing presence in North Africa with a €19 million expansion in Sig, Algeria. The Spanish food group’s project will double the plant’s production capacity once both new lines are operating.

The cake line began production in July 2026, adding 7,000 tonnes of capacity. The bread line is scheduled to start in October, providing a further 8,000 tonnes for products including burger buns and sliced bread.

The investment also covers a warehouse and two laboratories, for analysis and product development. The new building spans more than 10,000 square metres across two floors. Vicky Foods expects the expansion to create around 100 jobs in the short and medium term.

Chief executive Rafael Juan said the project would broaden the product range and continue the company’s long-term industrial commitment to Algeria.

The Sig factory, near Oran, opened in 2014 as the group’s first manufacturing site outside Spain. Its development helped establish Dulcesol in the Algerian bakery market.

International sales reach €193 million

The investment follows a year in which overseas business outpaced the group’s overall growth. In 2025, international revenue increased 23% to €193 million, accounting for roughly a quarter of total sales. Group revenue reached €761 million, up around 9%, with Algeria and Portugal among the markets showing particularly positive momentum.

The expansion in Algeria accompanies investment in European manufacturing. In November 2025, Vicky Foods inaugurated its first French factory in Fragnes-La Loyère, following an investment of more than €100 million. The facility was designed to serve France and other European markets, including Germany, the Benelux countries and Italy.

In March 2026, the group announced an agreement with Adam Foods to acquire Panrico in Spain and Portugal, including its factory in Gulpilhares, Portugal. That site has three sliced-bread production lines and annual capacity of 21,000 tonnes.

These investments give additional weight to a category that has reshaped the company’s business: bread has exceeded sweet bakery products in sales volume since 2022, making it Vicky Foods’ largest product category by that measure.
