Lufthansa Cargo Targets Ultra-Urgent Shipments Amid Intensifying Air Freight Competition
Lufthansa Cargo has launched an emergency product for ultra-urgent shipments, intensifying competition among global carriers for time-critical logistics clients.

Lufthansa Cargo has launched a new emergency product for ultra-urgent shipments, raising the stakes in the competitive global air cargo market for time-critical logistics solutions.
Announced on 17 September 2026, the offering grants the highest transport priority for shipments regardless of product, size, or weight, and is available for short-notice bookings up to the latest acceptance time. The product, simply branded as Emergency, can be integrated with existing offerings—including General Cargo, Dangerous Goods, Passive Temp Support, and Vulnerables—aiming to address the logistics needs of industries such as pharmaceuticals and machinery, where delivery speed and reliability are paramount.
A key differentiator is the inclusion of a money-back guarantee: if a shipment is not available for collection within six hours after the specified time of availability, customers are entitled to a refund. Enhanced monitoring is provided at Frankfurt, Munich, and Vienna hubs, while the service is accessible at more than 200 stations worldwide and monitored 24/7 by Lufthansa Cargo's customer service team.
The move comes as demand rises for expedited air logistics, particularly for sectors managing time-sensitive goods. For European exporters and Latin American producers, the ability to secure last-minute, high-priority shipments is critical for both supply chain continuity and market responsiveness. Enhanced offerings such as Lufthansa Cargo's Emergency product are emerging as key differentiators in winning business from companies in life sciences, high-tech, and other sectors reliant on just-in-time deliveries.
The competitive landscape for urgent air shipment services is evolving rapidly. Major carriers and integrated logistics firms have ramped up investments in digital booking, real-time tracking, and value-added guarantees to capture a larger share of the critical shipments segment. Operationally, meeting the stringent demands of ultra-urgent shipments poses challenges, increasing pressure on logistics processes and hub management. However, the upside is significant: reliable emergency services can both bolster a carrier's reputation and attract new customers.
The introduction of Lufthansa Cargo's emergency product signals growing competition for high-value, time-critical freight traffic on transatlantic and intercontinental routes. As the market for urgent shipments expands, carriers will be under increased pressure to deliver not just speed, but also certainty—a demand now underscored by service guarantees and global coverage.
