Spanish Drone Startup Skyboria Targets Latin America With Chile Factory Plan

Spanish drone startup Skyboria is moving to strengthen its presence in Latin America with a planned capital increase and a production facility in Chile, marking a strategic step for the company’s international expansion.

The company and its official representative in Chile, Redford Advanced Equipment, confirmed the plan during a meeting at the Chilean Embassy in Madrid. The project includes the opening of a local UAV production site in Chile by the end of 2027, with the aim of positioning the country as a regional center for high-performance drone manufacturing.

Skyboria’s technology is focused on advanced unmanned aerial vehicles capable of supporting defense, security, logistics and disaster response operations. According to the company’s presentation, its drone can transport up to 500 kilograms, or the equivalent in water, and incorporates hybrid propulsion, autonomous navigation based on sensors and LiDAR technology, as well as AI-assisted fleet management.

The initiative reflects a broader trend in Europe–Latin America industrial cooperation, where European technology startups are increasingly looking to the region not only as a sales market, but also as a production and operational platform.

For Chile, the project could strengthen national capabilities in defense technology, emergency response and dual-use aerospace systems. The company also held conversations with Chile’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation and state-linked industrial actors including Famae, Asmar and Enaer, seeking to align future manufacturing with national and regional standards.

The move comes as Latin American countries increase demand for drones and autonomous systems across security, agriculture, infrastructure monitoring, mining and disaster management. For European startups, the region offers both growth potential and room to build industrial partnerships in sectors where adoption is still expanding.

Skyboria’s planned capital increase will be key to financing its next stage of development and scaling the Chile project. If completed, the factory would give the Spanish company a foothold in South America and create a bridge between European drone technology and Latin American industrial needs.

Skyboria’s Chile plan shows how European defense and drone startups are using Latin America as a platform for growth, production and regional expansion.
