Gallium Defense raises €7.1M to make scalable drone detection affordable for defense budgets
French startup Gallium Defense has secured €7.1 million to develop a modular radar system, aiming to lower the cost and expand the reach of drone detection for defense applications.

Gallium Defense, a French deeptech startup, has raised €7.1 million in seed funding to develop the GDS-10, a modular radar system designed to make drone detection more affordable and scalable for defense budgets.
The funding round, led by Keen Venture Partners and 360 Capital with support from Omnes Capital and Polytechnique Ventures, aims to accelerate the integration of Gallium Defense's technology into existing defense platforms. The company’s GDS-10 system offers a 10-kilometre detection range for first-person view (FPV) drones, using a software-defined, X-band active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar.
The cost-effectiveness and modularity of the GDS-10 could transform current procurement strategies in the defense sector. By lowering the financial barriers to advanced drone detection, Gallium Defense’s approach may allow defense ministries and agencies in Europe and Latin America to deploy such systems more widely, potentially improving airspace security without placing additional strain on already tight defense budgets.
Analysts suggest that the technology’s scalability could attract a broader range of contracts, especially as governments seek to modernise their defense infrastructure in response to the growing threat of unmanned aerial vehicles. However, market acceptance remains an open question, with established providers of drone detection systems presenting strong competition.
The funding underscores increasing investor interest in affordable critical infrastructure solutions, particularly those that can be integrated flexibly into existing military assets. For policymakers and defense procurement officials, the emergence of cost-effective radar systems like the GDS-10 could provide new options for balancing capability with fiscal discipline.
